Stockton-on-Tees

Stockton-on-Tees is a quaint market town in County Durham with plenty of fun activities to enjoy, as well as lots of shops, pubs, and restaurants to visit with your friends whilst studying here! The town is home to the Durham International Study Centre Queen’s Campus, where you’ll receive a high level of support to help you settle into UK life.

Whether it’s a stroll along the river or a trip to the nearby coastline and countryside, you’ll never be short of things to do whilst living here. For those students who feel like an adrenaline rush, why not try out some kayaking at the Tees Barrage International White Water Centre?

  • The River Tees

    Situated right on the River Tees, a well known feature in the North East, Rialto Court and Infinity House offer stunning nearby river views. It is also a popular destination for water sports, including the Tees Barrage White Water Course and the UKs biggest high ropes course.

  • Nightlife

    Although Stockton offers some quaint pubs, Middlesbrough remains a popular destination for students to experience Northern nightlife, with a variety of bars and clubs, particularly on Coporation Road and Bedford Street. .

  • Shopping

    Only a 10 minute bus journey away is Teesside Park, a large retail shopping park offering a wide selection of food and clothing stores. Even closer is Stockton High Street, a 5 minute walk away: offering groceries, pharmacies, a post office, and much more.

  • Parks and Beaches

    As you will be living close to the coast, we recommend visiting our local beaches, Saltburn and Seaton Carew, to enjoy fish and chips. Alternatively, Preston Park and Ropner Park offer a great country walk and a picnic. ,

  • Leisure

    Try Middlesbrough’s newest entertainment hub Level X.  Here you can ride go karts, go bowling, and play arcardes or try some mini golf at Putter Chaos. For those who enjoy sports, Billingham Forum offers swimming, ice skating, gym facilities and much more.

  • Where to Eat?

    From small local pubs and restaurants to popular chain restaurants like Five Guys, Pizza Express, Nandos and TGI’s, Stockton offers many food options. Yarm was voted “Best High Street”, with some of the most exclusive restaurants in the North East.
